Costs of the same medication can vary from pharmacy to pharmacy, even when you have insurance. For example, your local Walgreens may offer a lower cost for your medication than CVS and vice versa. This is why it is important to identify the best location to fill your prescriptions.  There are a number of websites that help you identify where to go and that are free to use.

  • GoodRX allows you to search by medication and lists the best prices without insurance. They even offer coupons that you can present when filling your prescription that lower the cost even further. An app is available.

  • WellRX allows you to search my medication and location, pinpointing the best price. Coupons are also available. An app is available.

  • Blink Health provides low prices as well and even provides a free delivery option.

  • NeedHelpPayingBills is a website that lists state and local assistance programs that you may qualify for.

There are even differences in prices even between these resources. These are just a few options; there are an abundance of other sites and apps that provide similar services not listed here. There is no shortage of help!

Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs)

Name-brand medications can cost significantly more than their generic counterparts.

  1. If you are able, first ask your doctor to write a prescription for the generic option.

  2. If that is not possible, Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America has provided the Medicine Assistance Tool that can be used to request financial aid for medication. 

  3. RxHope provides similar assistance to help users requests financial support.

A number of individual pharmaceutical companies also provide assistance programs. ADA provides links to these programs for AstraZeneca, Forest, Lilly, Pfizer, and Takeda.
