Want to Know about Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD)?

ADHD & ADHD Intentive Type

These medications, often referred to as stimulants, are used to increase the availability of the chemical dopamine in the brain which controls your attention and mood.

Stimulants have been used to treat ADHD for many decades now and work for about 70-80% of people. Common stimulants are:

  • Dexmethylphenidate (Focalin)

  • Dextroamphetamine (Adderall)

  • Lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse)

  • Methylphenidate (Concerta, Quillivant, Ritalin)

In a case where stimulants are not effective for you,  non-stimulants are also an option. This type of medication can help with concentration and impulse control.

Alpha agonists are non-stimulants drugs that can be used to also treat ADHD. Some examples of this class of medication are: Clonidine (Catapres) and Guanfacine (Intuniv).

Many people who suffer from ADHD also suffer from depression and anxiety. In that case, you may have to use antidepressants to treat depression and anxiety and also stimulants/non-stimulants for ADHD. Always consult with your physician about historical and current medications.
